Eat A Peach
Is the image of a peach truck on the Allman Brothers album, released in february of 1972, a cryptic reference to the death of Duanne Allman?
The Late great Duanne Allman died on October 21st 1971 in a traffic accident in Macon Georgia. Duanne was travelling west down Hillcrest avenue when a truck approaching from the other direction began turning on Bartlett ave in front on Duanne. The began the turn but stopped midway, effectively blocking the road. Duanne swerved to miss the truck and almost did, when he struck a piece of equipment hanging on the back of the truck. Duanne fell off the bike losing his
helmet. Duanne was still alive after the accident but later died in hospital of massive internal injuries. The truck was NOT carrying peaches it was a chevy flatbed truck. The rumor persisted and when Barry Oakley eerily died almost a year later, less than a couple blocks away, also on a motorcyle, the rumor expanded. The back cover of the album shows a watermelon truck, which was claimed by some to be the truck Barry Oakley hit when he died. Barry Oakley died while racing along Napier Avenue with a friend and failing to negotiate a slight curve in the road at Iverness Street. Barry swung into the oncoming lane and struck a city bus, bouncing off the side and landing on the street. Barry managed to get up from the crash and claimed to be ok, later he would died from inflamation in the brain.
