Death
Aaliyah and her entourage had just completed filming a music video earlier than expected and decided to return to the United States early. The plane they had originally arrived in was a much larger plane than the one they now chartered. The plane was overloaded by 700 pounds and had an extra passanger, more than the aircraft allowed. The plane lifted off from Marsh Harbour Airport in the Bahamas, rose little more than 40 feet, banked left—then nose-dived into a marsh and burst into flames. Aaliyah was found about twenty meters from the wreck laying on her left side dead. The pilot was found to have cocaine in his system and the airline was cited for numerous safety violations.
