In the early morning of July 7th, 1993 Mia left the Comet Tavern in the Capitol Hill district of East Seattle, for a friends nearby apartment. It was speculated that she was looking for an ex boyfriend. Mia left the apartment at about 2:00 am and was believed to be heading home. A witness reported Mia was listening to her walkman when she left the Tavern and the police have speculated that she was probably unable to hear her attacker. A man reported hearing a scream at about 3 am in the vicinity of the Comet Tavern and Mia's body was found at 3:30 am near the corner of 24th street and Yesler (see photo). The body was laid out with her arms outstretched and her legs together, crucifix style. This led many to believe in satanic or a cult killing, probably adding to the confusion and mystery of the case. Mia's body was badly beaten and she had been raped before being strangled. Many years later a suspect was arrested and convicted of her murder. The police had saved a DNA sample, collected from saliva, which was recovered from her body. This positively identified him as being the murderer. The man was convicted and sentenced to 36 years in prison.Video
